We would like to extend a very warm welcome to both new and returning students to Leeds
Starting university can be both an exciting and challenging time. Settling in to the right church can greatly help in making the transition to student life an easy one. Leeds is a fantastic city with many good and vibrant churches to choose from.
St Matthias is an charismatic anglican church which has served the local community for over 150 years. We are quite a diverse church in the heart of the city; our church family includes people of all ages and backgrounds. We aim to be a place where all who come through our doors feel loved, valued and safe. As a church we have a number of distinctives:
We are passionate about discovering the great love that God our Father has for each one of us and sharing that love with those around us.
Some tips for finding the right church for you:
- When looking at churches think about what's important to you in a church. For example, would you feel more comfortable in a student church or a more family oriented church? Does the church's theology match your own? What opportunities are there to get involved with the life of the church? Is the church easy to get to from your accommodation?
- Do your research: Search up churches in Leeds and look at their websites to give you an idea of which churches most closely reflect your theology, needs and vision. LUU Christian union has a list of approved churches and organise visits to churches in the first few weeks of the new semester. http://www.luucu.com/freshers.html
- It can be worth visiting a number of churches to get an idea of where you feel most comfortable.
- Finally when you've found the right church, commit yourself to attending as regularly as you can, as even in the friendliest of churches it can take a little time to feel fully at home.
